Custom made

Made to measure leather boots and shoes, made in a traditional hand-welted construction. Created with both modern and antique tools. Careful patterning and sharp tools are the keys to making a quality boot.

Made to last

Quality materials and attention to detail will allow these boots to be resoled and worn for years to come. With upwards of seven different types of leather and an endless number of supplies in each pair, it’s a tough job to make everything blend together.

In-process examples

Welting process

The process of attaching a welt (strip of leather) to the upper through the holdfast using an awl, bristles and thread. Traditionally, welting bristles were made from stiff boar’s hair, but metal bristles are more widely used

Cutting the holdfast on a western boot

The insole and holdfast are the spine of a welted shoe. They are cut using simple tools at precise dimensions.

Loafer experiment

A simple one-piece loafer. The final shoe didn’t end up fitting because it was created on a boot last instead of a shoe last. Fun to make and learned a lot.
